The Marquette University men’s golf team prepared for the new season with a “phenomenal” tour of Scotland with College Links Golf.
The Golden Eagles played golf at Royal Dornoch, Castle Stuart (twice), Trump International, Carnoustie, Kingsbarns, Craigielaw and North Berwick during their visit in August. They also played a unique challenge match against the University of Stirling over the Ailsa Course at Trump Turnberry.
Speaking to College Links Golf at Turnberry, Coach Bailey said the chance to spend time with his players during the summer was one of the major benefits of coming to Scotland.
“It’s a unique opportunity for us to have some time with our guys before the season starts,” he said. “It’s been a phenomenal week for our team and one we’ll remember for the rest of our lives.”
“The courses we’ve played have really challenged our guys … seven of the courses we played this week are ranked in the top 100 in the world. Being able to provide an opportunity like that for your student athletes is special.
“The players have loved it. The weather has been really kind to us but it’s an experience that they’ve never had before and I’m sure they’ll come back!”
Coach Bailey added: “College Links Golf is a first class organisation. We’ve been taken care of really well. I’d recommend them to any group planning a tour to Scotland.”
Dean Robertson, head of performance golf at the University of Stirling, hailed the Turnberry match as a terrific success.
“Our players relished the chance to welcome an American college team to the Ailsa Course,” he said. “We have had the opportunity to play in tournaments in the US, which has been hugely beneficial for our players, and I’m sure coming over here and playing links golf will be just as worthwhile for the Marquette team.”
